Hi guys 🙂 I’ve been working on this project since January and I’m very excited to finally tell you all about it. A while ago my former colleague and good friend Mischa from Selfedge Showroom called me if I wasn’t interested in designing a jacket together with Goosecraft, a Dutch label specialized in and passionate about leather. Since becoming a fashion designer was my big dream in a former life I didn’t actually have to think about the answer, I immediately said “YES” to the proposal 😉

Somewhere in the beginning of January we drove to the Goosecraft headquarters in Amsterdam for a first meeting. I made a little visual presentation of what I had in mind with pictures of Michael Jackson in the Beat It video (what else) and tough girls dressed in leather (it sounds worse than it looked). One of the first things I said was that my jacket needed to be long enough since all the versions I ever tried were way too short and I wanted to be able to roll up my sleeves just like MJ. The final thing I added was that it had to be minimalistic with a touch of rock ‘n roll and very practical, a true Journey Jacket! The design team, Mischa and I started looking into the archives, fitting, putting things together and before I even realized it, a first drawing was made.

In total the creating part took around 4 months, by the end of April and three samples later the Journey Jacket was ready for wholesale and to be presented during the press days.

So far for the introduction… let’s tell you a bit more about the story behind the jacket. As you know, for me the word “journey” both has a literal and a figurative meaning. On the one hand a journey is about traveling and visiting new places but I also see it as a more personal thing like random life adventures crossing your path. These two “definitions” had to be translated into the jacket so that’s why we added a large inside pocket to store your personal belongings such as a passport and phone. On the pocket we put a note to every new owner and you can fill in your name to make it personal, also a lucky coin was added since everyone can use a dose of luck. In the lining we printed my favorite words “believe, be, love, feel, create, inspire” because I think the combination of those is essential to live a happy life.

I wanted the Journey Jacket to become a loyal compagnon that can join you everywhere you go, whether it’s a fancy party or a citytrip. It can easily be worn on a dress but also looks great with jeans. The jacket is a mix between a biker and blazer, minimalism meets rock ‘n roll.

The pictures of the Journey Jacket are taken by my talented loyal companion Ilja Sura Changlor Smets in my father’s atelier. For me it’s a very symbolic location since I grew up with my father’s sculptures and even though I don’t live there anymore, it’s still my home. Because it’s there where my family lives and where my journey started.

Before ending this post I’d really like to thank of course Goosecraft for giving me the opportunity to create this jacket together with them, Mischa for the introduction, support and guidance, Ilja for another set of beautiful pictures and Justine for doing my hair and make-up! Love you long time 🙂
