After an overdose of estrogen (sorry guys, can’t help I’m a woman) it was about time to let a man do the talking. Jonathan Zegbe from the blog jonthegold.com is the lucky guinea pig to answer my great old list of important life questions. Let’s check what he has to say 😉

1. How old are you and what’s your daily occupation?

Hi , I am Jonathan Zegbe. I’m 25 years old and I’m addicted to fashion blogging.

2. What’s your background? What did you study? Any other important life events that made you become the person you are today?

I’m a Belgian citizen with Congolese roots. In high school I chose for an orientation that I always found very interesting: Commerce. And at the moment I study business management at the Karel de Grote college.

You really need to know that like the most African families , my family is HUUUUUUGE. I grew up with many big personalities around me. The family members who really changed my life are my grandfather, who I got my middle name from, and my uncle Germain aka Germando Noble (that’s his nickname in the Congolese community). Such great personalities with a dapper style. They’d look ‘ON FLEEK’ from head to toe from AM to PM. If Instagram was a thing in the early 90’s my grandfather & my uncle Germain both would own the #OOTD for days. Now you know where I get my ‘style-genes’ from.

3. Besides your daily occupations, do you have other special interests / hobbies we need to know about?

On July 7th I started my one-man business. This means that Jon The Gold is not only a blog, it’s practically a creative agency offering different services like modeling, fashion consultancy, public speaking, PR and promotion. Besides my one-man business and studies I go to the gym once in a while.

4. If you could borrow my unlimited credit card and buy one thing, what would it be?

Wow! Let me think…I would probably buy an island somewhere sunny & tropical where there is no word for cold.

5. What makes you really really happy?

What really really makes me happy is FOOD! I’m such a foodie. If you ever saw me somewhere in a gutter left alone, sad , broke and depressed. Just give me a plate of food. It could be sushi, pizza/pasta, dim sum mix, chicken,…

6. If you could change lives with one person (he or she from the past or present), who would it be?

I would change lives with Kanye West for sure.

7. If you could use my unlimited credit card a second time to book a citytrip, where would you go to?

I would go to my hometown, Kinshasa (Congo) and stay there for an entire month. Two years ago I went back to Kinshasa after 10 years and believe it or not it was a cultural shock (yup even for me). Seeing the majority of Congolese people living in poverty and still making the best out of a horrible situation was so instructive. Since then I appreciate life so much more.

8. If there’s one thing you could change about the world, what would it be?

I would definitely change the way people look down on other cultures. It’s not because a culture is different or unknown to one that another should look down on it as if theirs is better. My dream is to write a book titled UPSIDE DOWN. What if Africans came to Europe before the European ‘explorers’ took over the world? Or what if the Africans were the founders of imperialism and colonialism. How would the world turn out today? These are the fundamental questions as a starting point for my book.

9. Which advice would you give to your younger self?

Dear younger Jon, stay true to yourself no matter what. Always educate yourself and surround yourself with good people. And GO GET THAT MONEY SON! 🙂

10. Which goals would you really like to achieve in the future? Both personally and professionally?

Let’s make a wishlist out of it…

Personally: meet the guys from ‘ART COMES FIRST’ and ‘STREET ETIQUETTE’, find the perfect woman, have two kids, upgrade my cooking skills, before settling down I got to do a threesome with 2 women and get over my phobia for rats.

Professionally: publish my book, have an article in GQ, make JON THE GOLD an online fashion & lifestyle platform for all men around the globe, expand my one-man-business, get legit recognition for my work in form of an award (perhaps a Bloglovin’ award), get an invite for Fashion Week Paris & New York.
