During my 30 years on this planet I found out that a world full of unicorns, pink fluffy clouds and lollipops doesn’t exist. It’s obvious that nobody can be the same happy person every day and everyone has their are ups & downs. But there’s a thing I don’t understand… why are some people so negative, full of envy and don’t grudge anyone the light of their eyes for no reason? That politicians who’re messing with taxes and strikers who are keeping others from going to work produce heated reactions is very normal. But the things that people comment on random articles really are disreputable sometimes.

The Essena O’Neill hype

Yesterday I was reading one of the many articles about young blogger Essena O’Neill who decided to quit Instagram, Youtube and Tumblr. It made her unhappy, it’s some kind of strategy,… I don’t know her personally so I have absolutely no idea what her exact intention is. The only thought that popped up in my mind was: good that a teenager is being open about the fact that not everything you see on social media is real. Young girls can be quite amendable and I know because I used to be one myself. What made me really angry were are the rude comments people were posting. Men from around 40 (seriously guys, you could be her father!) saying “boohoo you little attention whore” and women twice her age commenting that she’s a sad girl wanting to be in the spotlights. Even if she wasn’t being completely honest, what is wrong with telling that reality is more important than social media? Did it really bother some people that much to call her a sad girl or even whore?

Freedom of speech?

And this isn’t only about her… I truly support everyone having freedom of speech but sometimes people really should mind their own business. If you’re going abroad twice a year people are like “are you going on holiday…again”, if you’re wearing new clothes the only thing you hear is “you went shopping… again”. Does it affect you that some of us have the luck to go on holiday more often? Is it an attack on you as a person that someone is wearing new clothes? I don’t think so!

Me too, I’m being negative sometimes and as many amongst us I’d like to have it all. But I’d never call another girl a whore and when someone is going on holiday I wish them a pleasant stay. Unfortunately luck, money and chances aren’t distributed equally but we’re going nowhere with pointing fingers at others for no reason!
